Starvation in Eritrea
We decided to focus our work on Eritrea. The second most starved country in the whole world. And I want to add I'm from Eritrea so I can personally say that this is true. Since Eritrea is on the equator it gets up to 510 mm per year ( about a foot and a half.) Now that may seem like not much but it's too much. It floods there crops and farms. And it also gets up 90 degrees in the summer which can burn the crops if it doesn't rain. So our plan was to build a under growing greenhouse. For many reasons, one is it has less chance to flood because it has a natural filter, the dirt above it. Second we also put the irrigation system to run off the rain water so it clots and they can manually turn it on or off. Third it's better for the crops so it doesn't burn it has a natural mister/cooler from the saturated dirt.
Concepts: We didn't really anything new for this project, but we learned about the design cycle. 1.Identify the need 2.Research the Problem 3.Develop possible solutions 4.Select the most promising solution 5.Construct a prototype 6.Test and evaluate the prototype 7.Communicate the design 8.Redesign 9.Repeat This cycle is very helpful actually it helps proofread the whole problem. It can also be done backwards in some steps. But it helps with pretty much everything. |
